Mexico City

My favorite international city I’ve been to.

It has it all: walkable, bike-able, cheap-ish, people are kind, there’s a growing spiritual community.

I can’t say enough good things about this city, but I’ll start:

HEALING Experiences:

  • Most trippy yoga studio I’ve been to: Gita Studio

    • The yoga studio has images/videos projected onto the walls. The sound healing room has a cascading wall of color. Need I say more?

    • I’m now friends with the owner, Alejandro, and he told me this studio came to him in a dream 10+ years before he created it. Take mushrooms (text me for my guy’s number) and go to Alejandro’s sound healing classes - when I was in town, they were on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

    • I’m also friends with one of the yoga teachers, also named Alejandro, who teaches Yoga Dance. It is a beautiful incredible experience that made me want to look into taking contemporary dance classes.

  • The best massage I’ve ever had: Helena +52 1 55 1494 6958

    • She comes to you and charges ~$50-$60 for a 90 minute massage.

DAY Experiences:

  • Frida Kahlo Museum: Fucking loved this experience. 100% necessary to have a tour by my friend, Rodrigo +52 55 8564 (tell him I say hi)

  • Anthropologie Museum: need a tour guide for this too. It’s a lot of history, if you’re into that.

  • On Sundays, they close down roads, so take your bike for a Self-led Taco Tour

    • Taqueria Sin Nombre: order the Walnut, Goat Cheese, Stuffed Zucchini Blossom Taco

    • Tacos Los Alexis: Vegetarian Taco + the taco with melted cheese

    • Paramo: Grande Costa Azul Taco (best fish taco I’ve ever had)

    • El Sirloin de la Roma: they give you lots of toppings like pineapple and spicy mayo

EXERCISE Experiences:

If you plan to do more than 3 workout classes, then go go fitpass.app and get a month membership (you can only do the website, not the app on your US-registered phone). It’s $60/month for unlimited classes. Only caveat is you can only go to the same studio 4 times. It’s a total steal.

  • As mentioned under the ‘HEALING Experiences’ section, Gita Studio is an absolute must: look for Alejandro @articulandro (free mats)

  • The Mat MX: the only one on this list that isn’t on Fitpass.app. It’s a heated pilates and yoga studio. (free mats)

  • Secret Room Yoga (multiple locations): look for Sonia @sonia_seger. ($3 mat rental, lame)

  • Light On Polanco: look for Sonia @sonia_seger (free mats)

  • Atma Yoga (multiple locations): look for Alejandro @articulandro ($3 mat rental, lame)

  • Mula Yoga: cutes, I guess

  • Con Pausa: only in spanish (free mats)

  • Levé Studio: only in spanish (free mats)

FOOD Experiences:

BREAKFAST

  • Lardo: gives a New York vibe. Order the Goat Cheese, Lemon, Zucchini Scramble and ask for english muffin instead of bread. As an appetizer, get the rosemary bun and ask for it warmed up. Solid lattés.

  • Eggs Benedict at Dosis Cafe

  • Cafe Toscano Roma Norte: other locations aren’t as good. I love the avocado toast and the chilaquiles.

  • Panaderia Brulee: croissant

  • Panaderia Rosetta: croissant

LUNCH

  • Expendio de Maiz: You show up and make a reservation the day of. They only have 4 tables. They serve you something different everyday and you just tell them once you’re full and then they charge you. A true culinary expereince. It’s only fun when the owner is there and he gives you a story with each item he brings out, so ask if he’s in when making the reservation.

  • Fruto Prohibido: good for a quick lunch, get the Khaleesi Salad (dates + goat cheese?… say less)

  • Choza: Thai-fushion underground restaurant only open on Saturday-Monday (not on google). Address is Monterrey 194 (not labeled on outside). Check head chef’s instagram @trippingonchillies. Order the frozen Palomaa.

  • Wabi Sushi: Toro Ginzo roll + any Batura.

DINNER

  • Paramo: Best to go one of your first nights for dinner. Ask to sit in main room, not the shitty side rooms. Main room is classic Mexican vibe. Get the Grande Costa Azul Taco (best taco of my life), maybe order extra sauce on the side.

  • Restaurante Rosetta: Voted top 50 restaurant in the world and the first female chef on the list. Go upstairs to the bar and order a Limonada de Elote mocktail while you wait for your table; it’s tangy and creamy. For dinner, I liked the Sea Bass or the Chicken Liver Pasta (sounds gross, but fucking incredible).

  • Galanga Thai House: interior is a VIBE. Order the chicken noodle thing (KomKha?) with extra limes. Dessert is 10/10. Deep friend banana + ice cream.

  • El Mundo: Vegan restaurant. Obsessed with this interior. You pick a Tarot card to order a drink. Get the watermelon poké and the brownie.

DESSERT

  • Elena 147: COOKIE CROISSANT Y’ALL

  • Churreria El Moro Condesa: super popular churro place, but you have to go at night when it’s busy, otherwise the churro has been sitting there a while and isn’t as good. You will want at least 2 churros.

  • Somsaa: FUCK the food, but get a tea and dessert. Really cool, chill interior with little baby tea cups

COWORK Spots:

  • Libertario: a place for the coffee snobs.

  • Hotel San Fernando La Condesa: pretty colors

  • Tea Connection: only if you don’t have meetings because it’s outside. If you order iced tea, they bring it in a wine glass.

  • Café Comunidad: also has a yoga studio

  • Espiritu Sando: lots of hot people here because there’s an expensive gym next door

  • OpenHub Coworking Condesa: free spot, you just need to buy drink or food

  • Clarice Café y Literatura: small, but great

  • Haab Project Condesa: the first floor is free, the upper floors you have to pay a monthly membership
